Happy New Year.

I’m sure everyone has been feeling the new year blues. As much as we get excited about the new year, there’s always a societal pressure of leaving bad things behind like they never happened and starting fresh with a new slate but that’s not the reality of how things work.

My friend comforted me by saying that just because the date changes that doesn’t mean that your problems are going to go away, that your sadness will be replaced by motivation and new year resolutions which we stop following as soon as the second week of January begins, if we’re lucky that is.

We all lost a part of ourselves this year but valuable lessons were also learned from these experiences. No matter how much you burn, you always rise up from the depths of your despair.

Chasing after love will only make it go further away from you.

Sobriety takes willpower.

Justice is not always served.

Strength comes from within when you’re backed in a corner.

Only you can fix your self destructive personality.

I could go on and on about how this year has changed our lives but don’t let the societal pressures define how you choose to spend your days.

It’s ok to take things slow. We’re all built differently.

Each and every one of us is unique in our own ways so don’t beat yourself up just because you can’t seem to reach a goal that you set for yourself when you were in high spirits.

It’s ok to take baby steps.

Life isn’t a race. Take a deep breath and let go of that toxic person who is leeching off your energy, they don’t hold the power, YOU DO.

You are enough and you are right where you’re supposed to be. These have been my mantras for the past year and a half and they have helped me lead a better life.

Add positive affirmations to the lock screen of your phone or on a sticky note on the mirror of your washroom. Anywhere around you which will make your day a little better. It’s bound to change your life in the smallest of ways.

Good luck and find a way to keep yourself calm in the storm that your life is. I assure you, it gets better.
